Embroidery Chair

Embroidery Chair´s investigates the meeting between domestic craft, collective memory and contemporary furniture design.

For generations, embroidery translated dreams of an idealised life into textile landscapes: the red cottage by the water, the forest, the deer, the sense of stillness and belonging. Produced slowly, stitch by stitch, these works carry both an extraordinary investment of time and a deeply personal cultural history. Yet as interiors, tastes and generations change, many of them are eventually removed from their original context, stored away or discarded.

The chair becomes a new architectural framework for these displaced objects. Rather than treating the embroidery as decoration, the textile is integrated as a defining surface within the furniture, allowing its imagery, texture and imperfections to become part of the object’s material expression.

Set against Johan Lindstén’s contemporary design language, the traditional embroidery creates a deliberate contrast between softness and structure, ornament and reduction, nostalgia and abstraction. The familiar domestic image is repositioned within a new spatial and functional context.

Embroidery Chair is therefore not only an object to sit on, but an act of preservation and reinterpretation — giving overlooked craftsmanship, accumulated time and forgotten narratives a renewed physical presence. Produced by: CAPPELLINI
